Back in late Feb of this year, I had just returned from the ‘trip of a life time’ to Vietnam and was questioning why on earth a flip-flop, sun-seeking lover like myself was even living here in the UK… Then a few days after I landed in Blighty, I had the pleasure of working with top fashion photographer Mr Darren Black and I was instantly reminded why London is where I choose to continue to expand my entertainment brand.
Meeting brilliantly creative gems like Darren is why I love what I do; plus working with the girls, aka The IT Girls of course!
Working with ‘The Best’ is probably what I love most about my job. I mean, if they’re not the best I just don’t get those in-the-stomach butterflies; it’s like drinking lukewarm tea; very unsatisfying and quite frankly, a little bit boring. So I count myself extremely fortunate that many of the world’s finest creative talents choose to nest here in London Town. It makes it so much easier, “Ladies and Gents”, to leave the sparkling shores of Asia, the Caribbean & Australia and all those perfect ‘flip-flop places’ that feel so much like home, and place my hat firmly here in the UK. Here, there is an energy that money can’t buy nor that can easily be explained but which is unique and ultimately enriching for the creative soul. And so I return time and time again and stay, seeking the creative highs that make my job so wonderful.
And so it was that on a cold February morning, with all my freckles still singing but slowly receding into hibernation as the crisp -1 degree temperature hit my sun-kissed face, and British rail announcing rail cancellations left right and centre as heavy snow was about to hit the UK.
Despite all of this I felt a flurry of excitement at the prospect of working with Darren. I felt honoured to be collaborating with this wonderful talent and so lucky that my IT Girls and IT boy, Andrius were taking time out of their busy schedules to shoot IT Girl PR images with the talent that is, Mr Darren Black.
So who is this man? Only one of the best and most creative fashion and celebrity photographers in the country and possibly the world. Naturally, we were all thrilled at the thought of working with him. I mean what’s not to love about this sought after photographer? His signature stamp is subversion & cool and he’s known for shocking and rocking the establishment so we were curious as to what he would bring to a photo-shoot with a bevvy of beautiful show girls. We were in very safe hands though and when the IT Girls sashayed their way into his famous Cherry Bomb studios in Holborn, he popped on his ‘cabaret lens’ and began to work his magic. Since the IT Girls love the fashion world, and are frequently invited to open catwalk shows with their wow-factor performances, they’re no strangers to ‘posing’. The girls’ gorgeousness combined with the fashion influence within Darren’s work made for perfect photos for our beautiful Itties.
On a more personal note, it’s rare to meet such a huge talent who is so genuine and likeable. Darren quite obviously cares about the art he creates, but more than that he cares about his subject, about you as a person. He cares about your thoughts and your views as an artist; he listens and he understands your needs and desires and how to use all of that to make the magic happen. All of these factors combined make him a total pleasure to work with and his creativity and his heart cascade and spill into his knock out images, making them so much more than just pictures of gorgeous people.
Quite frankly he just gets IT! Oh and did I mention he is quire frankly, damn right fabulous to boot?!
If you haven’t already seen our social media campaign #Itsallaboutme, then make sure you follow us on Facebook and Instagram to see the final cut of Darren’s images from the shoot! The girls were amazing that day – team spirit was at its best and sisterhood was alive and kicking in Cherry Bomb Studios, London!
The importance of imagery for promotion purposes within business is incredibly crucial – today, more so than ever, with the wave of social media that permeates our existence. A photo sets the scene, captures a moment, it tells an instant story without words and so we are especially grateful that Darren took time out of his very busy schedule to help us promote our brand in a new and exciting way by creating a fresh set of sensational images for 2018. We are grateful for and humbled by your artistry Mr Black!
Thanks also go to Nice Productions for filming the shoot and creating some fab ‘behind the scenes’ footage. And a final thank you to Adele Forbes for your expertise with hair and make-up on the day which gave the IT Girls that professionally perfect, polished look.
As always in the wonderful world of the IT girls, team work and talent equalled fabulousness, so thank you everyone who made the day possible!
